With the theme “Once you built the world, now let me build dreams—together we’ll care for you with love,” the 35th International Day of Older Persons was celebrated in Faridpur with great enthusiasm.on Tuesday morning.
The event was jointly organized by the District Administration, Department of Social Services, Bangladesh Association for the Aged and Institute of Geriatric Medicine (BAAIGM), and various NGOs in Faridpur. A colorful rally was brought out from the premises of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, which was followed by a discussion session held in the DC’s conference room.
The discussion meeting was graced by Mohammad Kamrul Hasan Molya, Deputy Commissioner of Faridpur, as the chief guest, while A.S.M. Ali Ahsan, Deputy Director of the District Social Services Office, presided over the program.
Among others present were Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Shamsul Azam, Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. Shah Md. Badruddoza, educationist Professor M.A. Samad, editor of the Daily Fatehabad Professor A.B.M. Sattar, President of the Faridpur District Unit of Bangladesh Association for the Aged Dr. M.A. Jalil, General Secretary Professor Sultan Mahmud, Professor Abdul Hamid, FDA Adviser Azharul Islam, City Social Services Officer S.M. Sujauddin Rashed, as well as local senior citizens, officials from the Shomriddhi Program, and other distinguished guests.
Speakers at the event emphasized that elderly people are a treasure of wisdom and experience. They urged the younger generation to learn from their life stories and develop into responsible citizens. They also highlighted the importance of showing respect, care, and empathy toward older people to strengthen social harmony. Without family and community support, ensuring the dignity and safety of senior citizens is not possible, they added.
As part of the day’s observance, a free medical camp was organized at the Deputy Commissioner’s office premises, and senior citizen Khondaker Sirajul Islam was honored with a crest of recognition for his contributions.
