Human chain in Khagrachari demanding safety, lifting of travel ban in Sajek

Abu Rasel Sumon, Khagrachhari

A human chain was held in Khagrachhari on Wednesday demanding the safety of tourists in Sajek and the immediate withdrawal of the travel ban imposed by the local administration.

The demonstration was organized under the banner of tourism-related entrepreneurs and local traders at the Shapla Chattar area in the district town on Wednesday.

Transport workers—including drivers and operators of CNG auto-rickshaws, Mahindra, Mahindra Jeeps, and pickups—along with owners and employees of local hotels, resorts, and cottages participated in the event. They protested against the road blockades enforced by two regional armed groups and urged the administration to lift the restricted travel directives.

Addressing the rally, speakers noted that Sajek Valley, one of the country's most popular tourist destinations, has become unsafe for visitors due to ongoing turf wars between two regional armed factions: United People's Democratic Front (UPDF-Main) and Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (JSS-Santu Larma).
