Members of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) demonstrated swift and brave action on Friday night, preventing a clash between teen gang members and detaining seven individuals at a puja mandap in Jhikargacha upazila of Jashore.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 pm on Friday in front of the No. 1 Barowari Krishnanagar Puja Mandir under Jhikargacha upazila. The detained youths were subsequently handed over to the police for necessary legal proceedings.
According to local sources, an altercation broke out among 15 to 20 teenagers over cigarette smoking near the temple. As the clash escalated, the group forced their way into the temple premises, triggering panic among devotees and visitors attending the Sharadiya Durga Puja celebrations.
Observing the developing hazard, six Ansar and VDP personnel deployed for mandap security intervened to restore order. The team managed to neutralize the clashing teenagers, detaining seven of them at the scene before handing them over to on-duty police personnel who transported them to the local police station.
The six personnel involved in the action were Commander Md. Abdul Alim, VDP member Musa Karim, Ansar member Md. Abdul Hakim, Ansar member Md. Rakib Hossain, VDP member Hasibul Islam, and Ansar member Md. Abdur Rahim.
Members of the Bangladesh Ansar and VDP remain deployed across the country to maintain law and order and guarantee the safety of devotees during the ongoing Durga Puja festival.
