Issuing a strict warning against any form of corruption in the health sector, State Minister for Health Dr. M. A. Muhith stated that the current government will not tolerate financial irregularities under any circumstances.
He highlighted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the government has declared a "zero tolerance" policy against corruption, ensuring that every penny allocated to the health budget will be spent transparently for public service on Friday.
The State Minister made these remarks as chief guest at the 32nd DNMC Day organized by the Dhaka National Medical Institute and College on Friday afternoon. State Minister for Liberation War Affairs and Member of Parliament for Dhaka-6 Ishraak Hossain addressed the event as special guest.
Emphasizing transparency and accountability, Dr. M. A. Muhith alleged that thousands of crores of Taka were looted from the health sector and laundered abroad during the 15-year tenure of the previous administration. He noted that even in the case of the historic Dhaka National Medical Institute, income taxes were withheld and misappropriated for 12 consecutive years, leaving the current government and newly formed governing body to settle accumulated liabilities.
Reiterating the government's resolve to build a corruption-free healthcare system, the State Minister warned that sustainable development remains impossible without curbing corruption. He asserted that if any evidence of corruption surfaces in the health sector, the government and the Prime Minister will take immediate and stern legal action regardless of the perpetrator's political influence.
Highlighting the proper utilization of public funds, Dr. M. A. Muhith stated that the government is restructuring the health sector in line with public aspirations.
