Illegal Bengali dredgers being used to extract sand in Tongibari

Md. Masum, Tongibari (Munshiganj)

Illegal Bengali dredgers are being used to extract sand in Tongibari, Munshiganj. Due to the extraction of sand with these illegal dredgers, various establishments including agricultural lands and houses in the area are under threat.

It is learned that sand is being extracted by installing a dredger in the pond of an expatriate named Sohel Sheikh, son of the Awal Master of Singher Nandan village of Arial Union in Tongibari Upazila. These illegal dredgers are being supervised by the son-in-law of the daughter of that house, Md. Zahid Hossain.

On the spot, it was seen that sand is being extracted with illegal Bengali dredgers in Singher Nandan village of Arial Union. It has been seen that sand is being extracted illegally as per their will without respecting the law.

Locals say that if sand is extracted from this pond, various establishments including nearby houses will be damaged. Although there is no legal validity to extract sand by installing a dredger in this way, they are extracting sand by exerting influence.

Zahid Hossain said, I am the son-in-law of this house. No permission has been taken to operate the dredger.

In this regard, Arial Union Land Assistant Officer Selim Hossain said, necessary measures will be taken on the spot.
