The President of Chaita-Bajita Pani Samabayo Samity Ltd., Mohammad Gazi Jahangir Alam, held a press conference to protest against news published under the title of irregularities in the excavation of Betbunia and Chakarkhali canals in Madhabkhali Union of Mirzaganj Upazila of Patuakhali.

The press conference was organized at the Upazila Press Club in Mirzaganj, Patuakhali at on Tuesday noon.

The victim Jahangir Alam said in a written statement, "In the last few days, several national newspapers have published news under the title of irregularities in canal excavation in Mirzaganj.

The matter has come to our attention. The published news mentioned that 15 lakh 92 thousand 221 taka was allocated in the fiscal year 2023-24 for the silt removal regulator and office repair of Betbunia and Chakarkhali canals of Madhabkhali Union. Without using the allocated money, 2 people named Jahangir Gazi and Belal Mridha forged the signatures of the president and secretary of the LCS committee and withdrew the money. The matter is completely false and baseless.

The actual incident is that 28 lakh 11 thousand 321 taka was allocated in the fiscal year 2022-23 for the silt removal of 2 canals of the Chaita-Bajita sub-project and the repair of the office building and the sweep gate. The canal excavation work was implemented through 6 LCS committees.

After that, the authorities conducted an on-site survey and paid a bill of 25 lakh 74 thousand 778 taka. Journalists are being made to disseminate news with false information to hinder the development work of a wretched neighborhood and to humiliate us. We strongly condemn and protest against this.
