Teknaf (Cox's Bazar) Correspondent

A specialized rescue team from the Bangladesh Coast Guard, in collaboration with the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the Fire Service, successfully rescued 15 to 20 passengers after a Teknaf-bound bus fell off a bridge in the Damdamia area on Tuesday afternoon.

Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon informed this in a press on Tuesday night, stating that prompt emergency medical aid was provided to the victims, preventing any immediate fatalities.

The accident occurred at around 12:00 PM when a passenger bus operated by 'Poyra Service,' traveling from Cox's Bazar to Teknaf, lost control while crossing the bridge adjacent to the Damdamia Naval Police Outpost. The vehicle veered off the road and plunged into the ditch below, leaving several passengers, including women and children, trapped inside the damaged bus and suffering from various injuries.

Upon receiving the distress call, a rescue unit from Coast Guard Station Teknaf immediately rushed to the scene to spearhead the operation. They were soon joined by personnel from the Teknaf Battalion (2 BGB) and the Fire Service and Civil Defence. Through the swift and coordinated efforts of the joint forces, all trapped passengers were safely extracted from the vehicle within a short period.

Following the successful extraction, a medical team from Coast Guard Station Teknaf administered emergency first aid to the injured individuals on the spot. The casualties were subsequently transferred to the Teknaf Upazila Health Complex for advanced medical care. Authorities confirmed that no loss of life has been reported in connection with the accident so far.
