Vandalism of house, beating of woman over land dispute in Lakshmipur alleged
Lakshmipur Correspondent
There have been allegations of vandalism and beating of a woman named Selina Akhtar in Purba Battali Barkandaj house in Ward No. 7 of Dattapara Union in Chandraganj Upazila of Lakshmipur due to a land dispute.
The victim's family claims that the incident took place on Monday morning. Later, the injured Selina Akhter was admitted to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital, her family said.
The victim's family, Maqsud Alam, alleged that an attempt was made to evict Maqsud Alam from the land he had been occupying for almost 25 years. At that time, Nurul Amin's son Mamun and Zahir Uddin's sons Arif, Rafi, Babu and Zahir, led by Lipi, entered the house. It is alleged that they vandalized the house, cowshed, haystack and fence.
When Maqsud Alam's wife Selina Akhter tried to stop him, she was brutally beaten. Her neck was injured and her finger knuckles were broken, the family claims.
Selina Akhter alleged that Ruhul Amin sold her six hundred acres of land to Lipi, the wife of Sejo's brother Abdur Rahman. After learning about the matter, the younger brother Maqsud Alam approached the court. The victim's family claims that the incident began due to a dispute over the ownership and possession of the land.
On the other hand, the accused denied the charges of attack and vandalism and said that the dispute arose over the division of family inheritance land: Maqsood took coconuts from the heirs' land. A fight broke out over this. However, he claimed that there was no fight over the six hundred acres of land he had bought.
Former chairman of Dattapara Union Parishad, Abul Khair, said that Maksud's total land is 28 acres. Out of this, 14 acres have been sold and the remaining 14 acres of land have been found on the spot. They have measured the land. Ruhul Amin and other concerned persons were present at the time. He also commented that they did not expect Arif and Saiful to attack Maksud's house.
The victim's family claims that even if there is a dispute over land, no one has the right to vandalize houses or beat women. They have demanded a fair investigation into the incident, bringing those involved to justice, and ensuring justice through an impartial investigation.
The OC of Chandraganj Police Station said that no written complaint has been received so far. Legal action will be taken if a written complaint is received.
