Tight security in Tungipara on 77th founding anniv of AL

On the occasion of the 77th founding anniversary of the activities banned Awami League, law enforcement agencies have taken extensive security measures in Tungipara, Gopalganj.
In addition to additional police deployment at important places in the upazila, patrols of army and Ansar members have been strengthened to avoid any possible unpleasant situation.
As of 3:30 pm on Tuesday, there was no news of any meeting, gathering, procession or public program of the Awami League or its affiliates and associate organizations anywhere in Tungipara upazila. At the same time, the local administration said that no information has been received about any unpleasant incident till this time.
It can be seen on the spot that strict security measures have been taken at various important places in the upazila, including the tomb area of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Patgati bus stand, Patgati market. Additional police including armored vehicles have been deployed in the mausoleum and surrounding areas. In addition, additional security has been ensured at important roads, government establishments and public gathering places. Law enforcement officers were seen on alert at various intersections in the upazila.
Law enforcement sources said that security arrangements were strengthened since Monday night due to fears that local leaders and activists of the party may try to hold various programs on the occasion of the founding anniversary. This step has been taken as part of advance preparations to avoid possible chaos or unwanted situations.
In this regard, Tungipara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Ayub Ali said, “Special security arrangements have been taken across Tungipara since the night of June 22. Police and other forces are on duty to ensure that no procession, rally or untoward incident takes place on the occasion of the 77th founding anniversary of the Awami League. No reports of any meeting, procession or untoward incident were received anywhere in the upazila till 3:30 pm.”
Local administration officials said that security forces are on the ground round the clock to maintain public safety and law and order. The situation is being closely monitored and necessary preparations have been made to deal with any kind of unexpected situation.
Despite the tight security arrangements, the movement of ordinary people in important areas of the upazila was normal. However, the activity of law and order forces was noticeable in the cemetery area and surrounding areas. According to locals, the situation was calm and normal throughout the day.
