Banned Chhatra League leader dies in hospital after arrest in Faridpur

A leader of the banned Chhatra League, who was arrested with 100 grams of marijuana during an ongoing anti-drug drive in Madhukhali upazila of Faridpur, has died while undergoing treatment at a hospital.
The deceased was identified as Md. Imtiaz Ahmed Pranto, 28, son of the late Iskandar Haider from the Gondardia area under Ward 3 of Madhukhali municipality. Faridpur district police have formed an investigation committee to look into the incident to uncover the exact cause of death.
According to the District DB police, a special drive was conducted in the Gondardia area of Madhukhali municipality around 2:00 AM on Saturday night. Pranto was detained during the drive for his alleged involvement in drug trading, and police claimed to have recovered 100 grams of marijuana from his possession.
Md. Alamgir Hossain, OC of the District DB police, stated that Pranto suddenly fell ill about an hour after his arrest. As he began experiencing severe breathing difficulties, he was rushed to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, where he passed away at around 7:30 AM on Sunday while undergoing treatment.
Dr. Shikder Afridi Rizvi, Assistant Registrar of Faridpur Medical College Hospital, said that necessary medical examinations were conducted upon the patient's arrival. Clinical observations and a CT scan revealed that Pranto had suffered a brain stroke, resulting in a massive cerebral hemorrhage. The physician further confirmed that no marks of physical injury or signs of torture were found on the body of the deceased.
Superintendent of Faridpur Police Md. Nazrul Islam said, Pranto was detained with marijuana during the anti-drug operation and was subsequently hospitalized after falling ill.
