The event was attended by Member of Parliament for Munshiganj-2 Advocate Abdus Salam Azad, Member of Parliament for Munshiganj-3 Kamruzzaman Ratan, Member of Parliament for Munshiganj-1 Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, and Member of Parliament for Reserved Women's Seat-328 Momtaz Alo. Senior officials from various government departments, local leaders and activists of the BNP and representatives of print and electronic media were also present.
The modern and durable Kunderbazar Bridge is being constructed to replace the old, dilapidated, and hazardous bailey bridge located at the sixth kilometer of the Munshiganj (Hasara)-Kunderbazar-Sreenagar (Chonbari) District Highway (Z-8004) over the Ichamati River. The project is being implemented under the Roads and Highways Department’s initiative titled "Replacement of Existing Bailey Bridges and RCC Bridges at Dilapidated, Narrow, and Important Points (Dhaka Zone) Project".
Financed entirely through Government of Bangladesh (GoB) funds, the construction cost of the bridge is estimated at Tk 68.38 crore and 50 thousand. The proposed project period runs from June 2026 to December 2027. Featuring a steel composite structure, the bridge will have a total length of 151.90 meters and a width of 10.30 meters. Alongside the two-lane bridge, 600 meters of approach roads are planned for construction.
Once completed, the bridge will ensure safer, smoother, and uninterrupted travel for residents of Munshiganj, Tongibari, and Sirajdikhan upazilas, as well as surrounding regions.
Given that the region is a prolific producer of agricultural commodities including potatoes, paddy, wheat, mustard, and seasonal vegetables the new bridge holds strategic importance for regional trade.
