Railway In-Charge Imran attacked during eviction drive of illegal encroachers in Gazipur
Gazipur City Correspondent
Gazipur — Joydebpur Railway Security Force (RN&B) In-Charge Imran was assaulted on Sunday while conducting an eviction drive to remove illegal hawkers operating on and around the railway tracks near Joydebpur Railgate and the Kali Mandir area.
According to witnesses, as soon as the eviction began, a group of hawkers confronted the RN&B team and allegedly assaulted In-Charge Imran. In response, he instructed the RN&B personnel to baton-charge in an attempt to control the situation, leading to a scuffle between both sides.
The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon shortly after hawkers complained that RN&B personnel had launched an “unexpected attack” and arrested several hawkers. Local hawkers claimed that since joining the post again, Imran had been collecting money from them regularly, and the confrontation began when they refused to pay.
Joydebpur Railway Junction Station Master Mahmudul Hasan and Railway Police Outpost In-Charge Md. Kaiyum claimed they had no prior knowledge of the incident. They said they went to the scene only after being informed by RN&B In-Charge Imran, where they found two individuals already detained.
Though reluctant to give an official statement, the Station Master unofficially stated that Imran had a history of misconduct and extortion, even towards legally registered stall owners.
When asked about taking bribes and extorting hawkers, RN&B In-Charge Imran strongly denied the charges.
Railway Assistant Commander (Dhaka) Rokonuujjaman said, according to Bangladesh Railway law, occupying railway property for business purposes is completely illegal.
