Night school opens in Faridpur to bring literacy to underprivileged men, women

Mahbub Pial, Faridpur

A night school initiative aimed at eradicating illiteracy and spreading the light of education among underprivileged and working-class adults has been launched in Faridpur Sadar Upazila.

Member of Parliament for the Faridpur-3 constituency, Chowdhury Nayab Yusuf, officially inaugurated the night school program at Johura Gias High School in Aliyabad Union on Friday night.

Organized by Md. Shamsul Alam Bablu, a local BNP leader and the president of the Johura Gias High School managing committee, the inauguration event was attended by a large number of local residents and political figures. Among the notable attendees were Kotwali Thana BNP General Secretary Nazmul Hasan Chowdhury Ranjan, City Jubo Dal President Benazir Ahmed Tabriz, General Secretary Ali Rezwan Biswas Tarun, and District Krishak Dal President Rezaul Islam.

Speaking as the chief guest, MP Chowdhury Nayab Yusuf emphasized that education is a fundamental human right. She noted that many adult men and women remain deprived of educational opportunities because they are tied down by work and professional commitments during the day. The primary goal of these night schools is to provide them with functional literacy, helping them become self-reliant and conscious citizens.

In her speech, the lawmaker also highlighted the country's recent political transition, stating that the BNP has always advocated for the rights of the people. She remarked that the party's long-standing movement laid the groundwork for the ultimate student-led mass uprising that successfully ousted the recent fascist regime.

This adult literacy programme at Aliyabad is part of a comprehensive master plan for the constituency. Similar night school facilities are currently being established across every single union and municipal ward within Faridpur Sadar Upazila, ensuring that both men and women have equal access to life-changing education.
