Dohar Upazila Election Officer Md. Anichur Rahman has announced that citizens no longer need to visit the central Election Commission office in Dhaka to correct National Identity (NID) card information or modify dates of birth, as field-level offices can now process these applications directly.

Speaking at the Dohar Upazila Election Office on Thursday morning, the election officer explained that the Election Commission has categorized correction applications to streamline services. Minor corrections, categorized under Class 'A'—including minor spelling adjustments in names—are handled directly by the Assistant Upazila Election Officer and the Upazila Election Officer.

Md. Anichur Rahman added that citizens can apply for NID corrections or age modifications through the Bangladesh Election Commission portal or at their local upazila office. Correcting date of birth typically requires an SSC or equivalent certificate, or an authentic birth registration certificate, with upazila-level officials now authorized to resolve many age modification requests directly without fee demands. Addressing reports of external syndicates attempting to extract money from applicants, he confirmed that the matter has been formally reported to the UNO for action.

Highlighting the practical impact of the decentralized system, Bimba Rani Das (38), wife of physical disability sufferer Bimal Chandra Das (50) from Moksudpur Union in Dohar, shared that her husband's NID correction had been stalled for two years while they resided in a Sayedabad slum in Dhaka. Following their return to their ancestral village in Moksudpur, the upazila election office processed the application upon submission of a citizenship certificate from the local UP chairman, testimonial, NID copy of the applicant's brother, and nikahnama (marriage certificate).
