Labour unrest : 40 arrested from industrial areas,   none are workers: DIG

Ashulia (Savar) Correspondent

Law enforcement agencies have arrested 40 people on allegations of creating unrest during labour protests in different industrial areas, including Dhaka, Gazipur and Narayanganj. None of the arrested individuals are genuine workers, said Dhaka Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Mustafizur Rahman.

He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after visiting the Dhaka Export Processing Zone (DEPZ) and several industrial facilities, including Ha-Meem Group in Narsinghpur, Ashulia, on Tuesday afternoon.

DIG Mustafizur Rahman said a group of troublemakers was taking advantage of workers' legitimate movements by infiltrating them and attempting to create disorder. Police are working to identify those involved and collecting necessary information and evidence.

He further said that legal action would be taken against any outsiders attempting to create disorder in the name of labour movements. He also urged genuine workers to remain alert and vigilant.

Regarding the overall situation in the industrial belt, the DIG said the situation in Savar and Ashulia was currently peaceful, with workers carrying out their duties in a normal environment. However, he warned that no one attempting to create anarchy or disrupt public order would be spared.

Among others, Dhaka District Superintendent of Police Shamima Parvin, Additional Superintendent of Police (Savar Circle) Rakibul Hasan Ishan and Ashulia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Tarikul Islam were present during the visit.
