Jamaat leader's call for level-playing field before election

Maulana Abdul Jabbar, the nominated Member of Parliament candidate from Narayanganj-4 constituency of  Jamaat-e-Islami, has said that to prevent any political party from turning authoritarian or establishing fascism through absolute majority, his party has been demanding the introduction of a proportional representation (PR) electoral system. He also emphasized the need for a level-playing field before the upcoming national election.

 

He made these remarks during a press briefing on Thursday afternoon. The meeting was presided over by Maulana Mainuddin Ahmad, former Ameer of the Narayanganj City Jamaat and the party’s nominated candidate for Narayanganj-5 constituency.

 

The event was moderated by Engineer Manowar Hossain, Secretary of the City Jamaat. Among the special guests were Muminul Haque Sarkar, member of the Central Majlish-e-Shura and Ameer of Narayanganj District Jamaat. Other notable attendees included City Jamaat Assistant Secretary Md. Jamal Hossain, Media and Publicity Secretary Hafiz Abdul Momin, and several leaders from city and thana units.

 

Maulana Abdul Jabbar further said, “After the July uprising, the nation had expected economic recovery from the looted and fragile economy left behind by the fascist regime. 

 

Chief guest Maulana Mainuddin Ahmad said, “Our beloved homeland is going through a critical juncture. After the fall of the fascist Awami regime through the student uprising, people dreamed of a politically stable and just Bangladesh, free from corruption and extortion.
