Local influential people Chabbir Hossain and his brother Saddam Hossain have been accused of attacking, attempting to molest, looting and threatening to kill female entrepreneur Selina Begum in the old Kalabagan area of Jhalakati town. The victim made these allegations at a press conference at the Kazi Khalilur Rahman auditorium of Jhalakati Press Club on Saturday  afternoon.
Selina Begum said at the press conference that after her husband's death, she has been running their semai and muri business. Taking this opportunity, Chabbir Hossain, known as a powerful figure in the area during the former Awami League government, his brother Saddam Hossain and their associates had been harassing her for a long time. Selina claimed, 'Chabbir used to abuse me in obscene language at different times and made bad suggestions. I did not tell anyone about the matter for fear of losing my reputation.'
She said that on November 26, at 6:10 pm, Chabbir suddenly entered the house and grabbed her. When the neighbors came forward to her screams, Chabbir fled. Shortly after, Chabbir, his brother Saddam and some other family members attacked the house again with country-made weapons. Celina alleged, 'They tried to kill me by stabbing me with sharp weapons. They left me bleeding, broke the cupboard in the house and took away 8 lakh 9 thousand 700 taka, 8 bhori of gold ornaments, bank checkbooks and important business documents.'
He claimed that when his neighbor Jasmine Begum tried to protect him, she was also beaten up.
Selina said that her children were not at the scene - they were working in Dhaka. The attackers took advantage of the opportunity to commit the incident. Later, Selina, her children, Jasmine and her son were also made accused in the case.
He said, "When I went to the police station in a bloody state, the officers on duty asked me to seek treatment first. The locals admitted me to Jhalokati Sadar Hospital. But the fabricated complaint made by the attackers to take advantage of my stay in the hospital was accepted by the police station first. Later, my daughter filed a case as the plaintiff."
At the press conference, Selina alleged that the accused, who were out on bail, are pressuring former female councilor Sabina Yasmin to withdraw the case and are threatening to kill her. She said that she and her family are now in extreme insecurity.
Selina Begum demanded the immediate arrest of the attackers, an impartial investigation into the incident, and justice.
Jhalakathi Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Moniruzzaman said, two contradictory cases have been registered regarding the incident. The investigation is underway after verifying the allegations from both the parties. No complaint against anyone will be taken into consideration without verification. If the investigation finds the truth, action will be taken according to the law.
Selina Begum's daughter Jannatul Ferdousi Kavita, son Golam Kibria Bappi and granddaughter Tanha were present at the news conference.
