Election security tightened in northern border dist of Lalmonirhat, 106 polling stations at risk

Last-minute preparations have been intensified in the border district of Lalmonirhat ahead of the 13th National Parliament Election and Referendum. Distribution of election materials has begun in parliamentary constituencies 1, 2, and 3 of the district amid tight security from 12 noon on Wednesday.
According to district and upazila administration sources, all necessary equipment including transparent ballot boxes and ballot papers have been handed over to the presiding officers at polling stations in 3 constituencies including Lalmonirhat Sadar Upazila. The officials engaged in conducting the election are preparing to receive the equipment and go to their respective centers.
To make the elections free, fair and peaceful, a three-tier security system has been set up across the district. Special patrols and joint exercises have been intensified at the district and upazila levels by the army, BGB, RAB and police. Since Lalmonirhat is a border district, the BGB has been put on special alert to prevent illegal infiltration and arms smuggling.
In addition, the administration has identified 106 polling stations in remote char areas and border areas as important or risky. Additional law enforcement forces have been deployed at these centers and surveillance has been increased.
Presiding Officer Md. Kamruzzaman, who came to receive the equipment, said, "With the cooperation of the administration, preparations have been made to reach the center on time. Their goal is to ensure an environment where voters can vote without fear."
Lalmonirhat Sadar Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Manonita Das said that in order to organize fair and impartial elections, multiple executive and judicial magistrates are on duty in each upazila. Special arrangements have also been made for the centers in char areas and remote areas.
It is reported that a total of 22 candidates will contest the election in seats 1, 2, and 3.

According to sources from the Lalmonirhat District Election Office there are a total of 11,44,496 voters in the 3 parliamentary constituencies of Lalmonirhat district. Of these, 5,74,067 are males, 5,70,422 are females, and 7 are transgender voters. There are 94 polling stations in Lalmonirhat Sadar-3 constituency, 155 polling stations in Aditmari and Kaliganj-2 constituencies, and 137 polling stations in Hatibandha-Patagram-1 constituency.
