Announcement from mosque erupted clash leaving 50 injured in Habiganj

More than 50 people were injured in clashes  between 3 villagers of Shakhawa, Kargaon and Gumgumia of Kargaon Union of Nabiganj Upazila on Sunday.

The injured were rescued and given first aid at the Upazila Health Complex. The two have been shifted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital in critical condition. 

According to locals, Chamir Mia, 13, son of Benu Mia of Shakhoa village, was fishing in a small canal near Fisari of a man named Gauch Mia in Paschimpara Haore between Shakhawa and Kargaon villages.

At that time, Tutul Mia (12), the infant son of Nurul Mia of Kargaon village, stopped Chamir Mia from fishing. Later, an argument broke out between the two children.

At one stage, a young man named Jubel Mia (28) of Kargaon village beat Chamir. When the matter came to light at the village level, people from both sides got involved in bloody clashes with indigenous weapons.

Gumgumia villagers were also involved in the clash. The clash between the two sides lasted for about an hour.

Upon receiving the news, a team of police led by Nabiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Dalim Ahmed brought the clash under control. In this incident, the situation in the whole area is tense. Asmat, Habibur, Masuk, Tousin, Khokon and Ziaur were rushed to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital in critical condition.

In this regard, Nabiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Dalim Ahmed said, after receiving the news of the clash, the police went to the spot and normalized the situation.
