Three people including a child were killed in a collision between a drum truck and a CNG-powered autorickshaw in Kaliganj, Gazipur at around 8:15 am on Friday in Deopara Chattar area of the by-pass road.
Eyewitnesses and the fire service said, when a Narsingdi-bound CNG truck reached the Deopara area, a drum truck coming from the opposite direction ran over it while taking a turn. Two passengers were killed on the spot.
The deceased were Abu Taleb (27) of Tarakanda upazila of Mymensingh and Ali Ullah (40) of Monohardi upazila of Narsingdi.
Hafizur Rahman (40) of Sirajganj, his wife Chalma Begum (35) and their four-year-old son Tamim were seriously injured in the incident. Later, the child Tamim died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
After primary treatment, the injured were shifted from Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital. Doctors said that their condition is also critical.
Kaliganj Police Station SI Md. Russell said, the identities of the deceased have been identified. The process of handing over one body to the family is underway. Although the drum truck has been seized, the driver and assistant are absconding.
