A massive protest procession and rally were held on Monday afternoon, under the initiative of the Rangpur Metropolitan branch of Jamaat-e-Islami to protest the sudden and abnormal hike in fuel oil prices.

Organized by the Rangpur Metropolitan unit of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, the mass protest procession commenced at the city's July Chattar (Square), Town Hall premises, and Public Library grounds. It traversed through City Bazar, Super Market, Payra Chattar, Jahaj Company Intersection and Press Club Chattar, finally concluding with a rally at the Press Club premises.

The rally was presided over by Vice-Principal Maulana ATM Azom Khan a member of the Central Working Committee of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and the Rangpur Metropolitan Ameer. Professor Mahbubur Rahman Belal—a member of the Central Working Committee, a member of the Rangpur-Dinajpur Regional Team and the Member of Parliament for Rangpur-3 (Sadar) attended as the chief guest.

Speakers at the rally held at Press Club Chattar included Anwarul Haque Kajol, Secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami Rangpur Metropolitan, and Al-Amin Hasan, Assistant Secretary of the Metropolitan unit, among others.

Also present at the procession and rally were Professor Abul Hashem Badal, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Bangladesh Land Port Workers Union and Assistant Regional Director (Rangpur-Dinajpur) of the Bangladesh Shramik Kallayan Federation; Advocate Kawsar Ali, Metropolitan President of the Shramik Kallayan Federation and Secretary of Jamaat’s Publicity and Media Department; Maulana Shahjahan Siraj, President of the Metropolitan Jamaat’s Talim-Ul-Quran  Department and Working Committee member and Professor Abu Sajid, Working Committee member and Professionals Thana Ameer, among others.

During the rally, strong condemnation and outrage were expressed regarding the repeated hikes in fuel oil and electricity prices over the past month.
