Tributes to July Martyrs in Satkhira

SM Sahidul Islam, Satkhira

In a solemn atmosphere filled with deep respect, gratitude, and patriotic fervor, Satkhira paid homage to the martyrs and injured fighters of the historic July Uprising. A commemorative discussion, crest award ceremony, and cultural program were held on August 5, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the District Shilpakala Academy auditorium, organized by the Satkhira District Administration.

The program commenced with a one-minute silence in remembrance of the July martyrs and injured fighters. A video message from the Hon’ble Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus illuminated the event, reflecting on the legacy of the July Uprising. The welcome address was delivered by Additional Deputy Commissioner Bishnupad Pal.

Among the distinguished speakers were Satkhira Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mostak Ahmed, Superintendent of Police (SP) Md. Monirul Islam, Principal of Satkhira Government College Professor Md. Abdul Hashem, Satkhira District Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Vice-Principal Shahidul Islam Mukul, District BNP Member Secretary Md. Abu Zahid Dablul, leaders from Chhatra Dal, Chhatra Shibir, and the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, as well as injured July movement activist Md. Zillur Rahman.

Speakers repeatedly emphasized that the spirit, courage, and sacrifice of the July Uprising should serve as a beacon for the younger generation. They echoed a collective call for building a corruption-free, egalitarian, and democratic Bangladesh.

An emotional highlight of the event was the presentation of honorary crests to 101 individuals, including members of four martyr families from Satkhira. With eyes brimming with tears, the recipients accepted the crests—not merely as awards, but as symbols of national love and gratitude.

Following the discussion, a vibrant cultural performance was held. Various cultural organizations presented songs, poetry, and dances inspired by the July movement. This cultural segment served not just as entertainment but as a powerful reawakening of a historical struggle.

The event was graced by the presence of Satkhira Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Shoaib Ahmad, District Jamaat Secretary Maulana Azizul Islam, former convenor of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Arafat Hossain, and former spokesperson Mohini Tabassum, along with numerous political, social leaders, government officials, martyr family members, and relatives of the July fighters.

The entire program was skillfully anchored by Satkhira District Cultural Officer Faiza Hossain Annesha.

Throughout the event, there was a constant call to honour history, revive collective consciousness, and reaffirm a shared vision for the future—transcending all divisions to build a united Bangladesh. The blood-stained legacy of the July martyrs continues to inspire and guide us in the pursuit of justice and national dignity.
