The victim's family alleged that a young man named Rajeev Hossain (31) was killed by a terrorist attack on a picnic trawler in Rupganj, Narayanganj. At least 10 others were injured in the attack.

On Tuesday afternoon, Ichapura naval police recovered the body of the dead youth from Shitalakshya river in Tarail area of Kanchan municipality of Rupganj upazila. Earlier, a terrorist attack on a picnic trawler took place in Shitalakshya river in Tarail area last Sunday (July 14) around 9 pm. Police have not arrested anyone in this incident so far. Deceased Rajiv Hossain is the son of deceased Abdul Haque of Barkao area of Kaliganj police station of Gazipur district.

Arif Hossain, the brother of the deceased Rajeev Hossain, complained that last Sunday (July 14) at around 9 o'clock in the morning, around 30 friends, including his brother Rajeev, came from Barkao area of Kaliganj towards Mahal Purbachal. Later they hired a picnic trawler from Tarail area.

At around 9 pm, a group of 20 to 25 terrorists from Tarail area, armed with sharp and indigenous weapons, ambushed the picnic trawler with a pre-planned robbery. The assailants looted cash, mobile phones and jewelery from the picnickers in the picnic trawler. At one point, the picnickers had an argument with the attackers. At least 10 picnic passengers including Badal Mia, Jahangir Hossain, Rabbi Mia, Alamin, Rezaul, Shyamal Mia were injured in the attack by the guards.

Meanwhile, the attackers hit Rajeev Hossain with native weapons and threw him in the river after killing him. Later on July 15, the relatives of the deceased and the diving team searched the river for a whole day, but Rajiv Hossain's body was not found. After not being found, their sister Mahmuda Akhter filed a general diary in Rupganj police station.

Mahmuda Akhter said, we got to know about the attack the day after the incident. After learning about the attack, he searched the river and did not find his brother's body.

In-charge of Ichapura Naval Police Fadi, Mustafa Kamal, said that on Tuesday (July 16) around 11 o'clock local residents informed the police and relatives after seeing the dead body of Rajeever Hossain floating in the Shitalakshya river of Tarail area. Later, the police reached the spot and recovered Rajiv Hossain's body and sent it to Narayanganj morgue for post-mortem.

Mahmuda Akhter, the sister of Rajiv Hossain, who was killed in this incident, is preparing to file a murder case in Rupganj Police Station as the plaintiff. Efforts are underway to identify and arrest those involved in the incident.
