Students of Rajshahi University (RU) formed a human chain demanding reform of quota system The human bandh demanded cancellation of quota system in government first and second class jobs and reform of quota system in government jobs.

Around 1000 students from various departments of Rabi participated in the human chain. Ignoring the rain, ordinary students blocked the road at the main gate of the university by starting a human chain from Paris Road adjacent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Senate Building at 10 am on Thursday. 'Quota system has no place in Bangabandu.

Those who made the country independent, why should they be insulted', 'Quota system does not create discrimination, rather it provides equality ;Freedom fighters should not be ridiculed. They protested with slogans such as, "It will not be allowed", "The honor of the freedom fighter family cannot be dishonored.

At that time, the students said that the students of Bangladesh were active in establishing equality, human dignity and social justice, are, are and will be. In order to ensure the participation of talented people in government jobs for the overall development of a country, there is no alternative to create equal opportunities for every citizen of the state. The students of Rajshahi University have always been vocal for reforming the discriminatory quota system.

They put forward 4 demands for reforming the quota system, they said, subject to the upholding of the 2018 circular, a commission should be formed to reform the quota system in government jobs. If the candidate is not available in the quota, the vacancy must be filled in the merit quota. 2) Individual can use the quota once in his lifetime in all types of government competitive examinations.

Incidentally, this will include public university entrance exams. 3) Re-evaluation of existing quota should be ensured through economic survey with every census. 4) Effective measures should be taken to ensure corruption free, impartial and merit based bureaucracy.
