The District Narcotics Control Department (DNC) has arrested a young man named Md. Abul Basar (31) with 25 pieces of Yaba tablets in Mirzaganj, Patuakhali. The arrested Abul Basar is the son of Md. Abdul Rahim of Dakshin Gabua village of Kakrabunia union of the upazila.

According to local sources, he is an aspirant for the post of president of the Kankrabunia Union Chhatra Dal and an active worker.

According to sources from the Narcotics Control Department, based on a secret tip-off, a special raiding party led by District Narcotics Control Department Sub-Inspector Md. Rakibul Islam Russell conducted a raid in Dakshin Gabua village of Kankarabunia Union of Mirzaganj Police Station on.Monday. At around 7:40 pm, a search was conducted at Abul Basar's own residence and 25 pieces of Yaba tablets wrapped in polythene inside a cigarette holder with a lighter were recovered from his pants pocket. The estimated weight of which is 2.5 grams. In addition, a Vivo (vivo y21) Android mobile phone used for drug sales was seized from him. He was arrested red-handed from the scene at around 8 pm.

Raju Ahmed, senior vice-president of Mijaganj Upazila Chhatra Dal, said, "It is not clear who has what inside them. Chhatra Dal has not condoned such activities and will not do so in the future." He had bought and submitted the nomination form for the post of president of Kakrabunia Union Chhatra Dal.

SI of the Narcotics Control Department, who conducted the operation, Md. Rakibul Islam Russell said that the arrested accused was keeping illegal narcotics, Yaba tablets, in his custody for sale and using mobile phones for drug trafficking. A regular case has been registered at Mirzaganj Police Station under the relevant section of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018 in this incident.
