The road has not been renovated in 8 years.Numerous potholes have been created across 3 kilometers of the 7 kilometers of the Korpai-Manghata-Abidpur road in Burichang Upazila of Cumilla , causing extreme suffering to vehicle movement every day..
This is causing extreme difficulties for thousands of people, including farmers, in marketing their produce and having to pay extra rent every day. In addition, when it rains, water accumulates on the road and turns it into a big pond. No development or renovation has been done on this road for the past 8 years. As a result, the road is falling into a bad condition day by day.
Locals said that in the Korpai-Manghata-Abidpur area of Mokam Union of Burichang Upazila of the district. The Korpai Post Office, Kakiarchar, Manghata, about 3 kilometers of the 7-kilometer-long road, has become almost unfit for traffic due to lack of renovation for more than 8 years.
Due to this, thousands of people from the neighboring villages of Lowarchar, Abidpur, Mithalma, Bharella, Brahmankhara, Premu, and Chhotana villages of Debidwar Upazila, in addition to the villages mentioned above, are facing extreme hardship in moving on this road every day. On the other hand, in Nimsa, there is Junab Ali College, Tahera Junab Ali Girls High School, Nimsa High School, various government and private schools, including banks, insurance offices, courts, and in Abidpur, there are schools, colleges, madrasas, and various markets. Hundreds of students, ordinary people, and businessmen in all those areas are facing difficulties in moving by vehicle on this road.
In addition, when people in the area fall ill, many patients die while being taken to the hospital in various vehicles. Similarly, pregnant women are facing extreme hardships in taking them to the hospital. In addition, hundreds of farmers from these agriculturally-dominated villages bring their produce to Nimsar, one of the largest wholesale raw materials markets in the country, every day on this road using tractors, CNG autorickshaws, easy bikes, and vans. As the road is full of potholes, vehicle drivers are charging extra fares from farmers. It is worth noting that at least 15,000 people travel on this road every day. Among them are school and college-going students, employees, businessmen, and working laborers. Farmers Jasim, Anis, Rashid, etc. of Mithalma village said that due to the dilapidated road, they have to pay extra fares in addition to suffering in marketing their produce.
Many times, due to waterlogging on the road during the monsoon, goods are obstructed in transportation and have to travel long distances to bring goods to the market through alternative roads. This also causes financial losses. CNG autorickshaw drivers Jalil from Kakiarchar area, Nasir from Mithalma village, who regularly transport passengers on the road, and several other vehicle drivers of various classes said that the road has been in a state of repair for many days. As a result, we, along with the passengers, are also suffering. In addition, minor accidents often occur due to potholes. In this situation, they demanded immediate repair of the road. Meanwhile, several people from Kakiarchar village, who did not want to be named, said that due to the construction of multiple houses on both sides of a section of the road in this village without any provision for water drainage, waterlogging occurs on the road even with a little rain. At this time, the suffering of vehicle passengers as well as pedestrians reaches its peak.
Abdul Jalil, a CNG driver from Char village in Kakia, said that it is very risky to travel on the S-road. Minor accidents happen every day. CNG parts have to be repaired regularly. Almost autorickshaws carrying passengers and goods overturn on the road, causing various types of damage. In this regard, Upazila Engineer Md. Alif Ahmed said that we are aware of the Korpai-Manghata-Abidpur road. We have sent an estimate for the road. Once the estimate is passed, we will start the road work as soon as possible.
