Prof Badruzzaman appointed to BUET as vice-chancellor

The government has appointed Prof Abu Borhan Mohammad Badruzzaman from the civil engineering department as the new vice-chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, or BUET.
He will have a four-year term, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, or DSHE, said in a notice on Thursday..
He will be receiving the same salary and allowances as his current position, along with the benefits of being the VC as per regulations, and is required to reside on campus as the university's chief executive.
President Md Shahabuddin, who is the chancellor of the universities, reserve the right to terminate his appointment at any time.
Following the Aug 5 revolution in Bangladesh, universities, like government and private offices, have seen changes in top positions. In continuation of this trend, Prof Satya Prasad Majumder resigned his position as BUET’s vice-chancellor on Aug 18.
In a separate order, Prof Abdul Hasib Chowdhury from the electrical and electronic engineering department was named as the premier engineering university’s pro-vice-chancellor.
His four-year tenure in the new position will commence from the date of joining.
