Police arrested a man on Monday in Sylhet on charge of cheating students in the name of sending them to the United States for study through creating fake documents including bank statements and IELTS certificates.

The arrested was Abdullah Al Noman, 36, founder and director of Education Care at Syllco Tower on the city’s Jail Road that had been running campaigns of sending students abroad on study visas, police said.

Noman is a native of Rajanpur village at Fenchuganj upazila in the district, the police said.

Sylhet Metropolitan Police additional commissioner Azbahar Ali Sheikh confirmed of the arrest and said that the Education Care also was sealed during the drive conducted at around 1:00pm.

‘The drive was launched after filing a case in the morning with the Kotwali police station in this connection by two officers of the American Embassy in Dhaka,’ he added.

The police officer said that Noman embezzled money from different students willing to study abroad and ran the visa processing through different false papers, including bank statements and certificates of language skill.

‘The American Embassy authorities came to know the incident of cheating after the deceived students had appeared for interview after submission of their files at the US embassy,’ the SMP official said.

He said that the allegations brought against Noman were found true in the primary investigation and he cheated more than 16 students according to the primary investigation.

Kotwali police station officer-in-charge Mohammed Ali Mahmud told that the arrested was being interrogated in the police custody and he would be produced before Sylhet metropolitan magistrate court on Tuesday seeking its directive on him.
