Oil ship fire in Chittagong : Coast Guard rescued 48 crew alive

Bangladesh Coast Guard rescued 48 crew members of Sourav Bangla oil tanker on fire at Chittagong outer anchorage on Saturday morning

Media officer of the Coast Guard headquarters, Lt. Md. Siam-ul-Haq confirmed this information.

He said, on Friday at 12:40 pm, a fire broke out on the BSC oil tanker Bangla, which was stationed at Chittagong's outer anchorage. Coast Guard Tug BCGT reached the spot and started fire fighting operations.

Immediately four rescue teams of Coast Guard ship BCGS Shyamal Bangla and 03 Metal Sharks of Coast Guard went to the spot and managed to rescue a total of 48 crew members of that ship. One of the rescued crew was taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital as his condition was critical. Later, the doctor on duty declared him dead.

At around 2:35 PM, the fire was brought under control with the combined efforts of Coast Guard tug BCGT Pramatta, Bangladesh Navy tug and Chittagong port tug.

The Coast Guard is always active in fire fighting and rescue operations.

This Coast Guard official also said that such activities of the Coast Guard will continue in the future.
