Alhaj Maulana Fakhruddin, one of Manikganj's Pir A Kamil, Aleme Deen, Mufachsere Quran, founder of many madrasas-mosques, Alhaj Maulana Fakhruddin (R) passed away at the local Munnu Medical College Hospital on Wednesday at around 9:30 pm. (Innalillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Raziun.) He was 102 years old. He is survived by five sons, four daughters, grandchildren, numerous relatives and many devotees. The news of his death cast a shadow of mourning on all levels of Manikganj and surrounding areas.

Janaza of the deceased was held on Thursday, August 25 at 10 am at DN High School ground in Ghior. Hafez Maulana Mufti Md. Hedayetullah, son of Maulana Fakhruddin Sahib, presided over it. At least 20,000 people attended the funeral. He was buried in the cemetery of his native village Hijulia.

It is known that he was suffering from old age disease. Two days ago, when his physical condition deteriorated, he was admitted to Munnu Medical College and Hospital.

He was born in Hijulia village of Baratia union of Ghior upazila. Maulana Azizul Haque, one of his students, said that Maulana Fakhruddin studied Meshkat Sharif at Barakatara Madrasa in Dhaka and completed Dawarae Hadith from Jamia Qur'aniya Lalbagh Madrasa. He then started teaching at Pabna Jamia Ashrafiya Madrasa. Later, he taught for a long time at Islampur Madrasa and Bharara Maqbul Uloom Madrasa in Daulatpur.

He was the Pesh Imam and Khatib of Ghior Bazar Central Jame Masjid. Besides, Kusta Jameya established Ashraful Uloom Madrasa, Hijulia Hilful Fuzul Madrasa and Ghior Umm Salma Mahila Madrasa.

On the death of Maulana Fakhruddin, Manikganj-1 Member of Parliament AM Naimur Rahman Durjoy, Upazila Chairman Principal Habibur Rahman Habib, Upazila Executive Officer Md Hamidur Rahman, Thana Officer-in-Charge Md Aminur Rahman, Daulatpur Upazila Chairman Nurul Islam Raja, Ghior Senior Madrasa Principal Maulana Md Yunus Ali. Leaders of various organizations and professions expressed deep grief and condolences to the bereaved family members.
