Int'l Conference on Biological Resources held at DU

Dhaka University Department of Zoology and Bangladesh Zoological Society jointly organized a day-long international biennial conference titled "Transformation of Poverty through Improvement of Health & Innovative Utilization of Bio-Resources" and annual general meeting of Zoological Society on Friday at Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhavan. held Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr. Sitesh Chandra presided over the ceremony.

In the opening ceremony, State Minister of Education Begum Shamsun Nahar, MP, Chief Forest Conservator of Bangladesh Forest Department. Amir Hossain Chowdhury, Director General of Directorate of Fisheries Syed Md. Alamgir, Jahangirnagar University Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Mostafa Feroz, Dhaka University Zoology Department Chairperson Prof. Dr. Shefali Begum, Chairman of Fisheries Department Professor Dr. Mohammad Roknuzzaman, President of Bangladesh Zoology Association Professor Dr. Hamida Khanom, General Secretary Prof. Dr. Md. Lokman Hossain, vice president. Dr. Tapan Kumar Dey, President of ACI Agribusiness. FH Ansari and Mukid Majumder Babu, Chairman of Prakriti and Jeevan Foundation spoke. The main article was presented by the professor of Dhaka University Institute of Health Economics. Syed Abdul Hamid.

Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr. Sitesh Chandra Bachar emphasized on the proper use of animal resources in poverty alleviation and building a developed and prosperous country and said that teachers, researchers, students and related parties should work together in new innovations. Animal health protection is also very important in animal resource enrichment. That's why everyone should be more aware in the use of antibiotics. He expressed hope that this conference will play a helpful role in the socio-economic development of the country through conservation of biodiversity and production of healthy livestock.

State Education Minister Begum Shamsun Nahar said that the government is taking and implementing various initiatives under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to meet the demand of non-vegetarians by enriching livestock. As a result of these initiatives, besides meeting the food demand in the country, people's health has also improved.

Highlighting the proper implementation of the law and the strict stand of the government in the conservation of wildlife habitat and biodiversity, he said, everyone will be more aware of wildlife protection.

The winners of Zoology Olympiad held nationwide were awarded in the conference. Dhaka University Zoology Department student Fairuz Humayara Etu became the champion and Rajshahi University Zoology Department student Nafsi Montainna became the runner-up.

It should be noted that academicians, researchers, students and professionals from home and abroad participated in this conference.
