Bangladesh University of Health Sciences (BUHS) held its 1st convocation on Thursday (April 25 ) at the University campus.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Samanta Lal Sen presided over the ceremony on behalf of the President and BUHS Chancellor Mohammed Shahabuddin.

Prof Dr Biswajit Chanda, Member of the University Grants Commission attended the program as special guest while Anthony Costello, Professor, Global Health and Sustainable Development of University College London was the Convocation Speaker.

A total of 600 students have been conferred upon Hons and Master Degrees. 7 of them have achieved chancellor and vice chancellor gold medals on their brilliant academic results. President, Prime Minister and Education Minister have issued separate messages and a special supplementary is published on the occasion.

National Professor A K Azad Khan, Chairman, University’s trustee board and President of its parent organization, Bangladesh Diabetic Somity (BADAS), and Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Faridul Alam also addressed in the function.

In the messages, President called upon the graduates to make the best use of their acquired knowledge in their professions. Prime Minister expressed that the graduates will bear the best testimony to the optimum potentialities with all adversities to build the Bangabandhu’s visionary Bangladesh. Education Minister said, BUHS has enriched the country’s education and health by providing need based education. Around 500 distinguished guests among the higher dignitaries of the ministries and UGC, vice chancellors and principals attended the program.

Dr. Sen said, “BUHS is working as a key development partner of the government by knowledge and modern technology based higher education”. He urged the graduates to follow the dedicated ideals of late National Professor Muhammad Ibrahim in their professional lives.

Prof Chanda said, “BUHS is playing significant role in human resource generation like today’s graduates by quality education”. Prof Costello said that BUHS has flourished the country’s health sector as the architect of thousand graduates as like the BIRDEM set a global example in health care services.

National Prof Khan said their graduates would shine in their careers by appropriate application of learning and the values of the University. Prof Alam expected that the graduates not only will work themselves but also will create manpower, and they will always upload the true spirit of BUHS.

Trustee board members, treasurer, all deans, registrar, proctor, controller, teachers, employees and students of the university celebrated the ceremony with festive mood. The program starts at 8.30 and ends in the afternoon with a cultural event.
