A joint eviction drive was conducted to remove illegal encroachments from Kaalir Chhara Canal at the initiative of Chattogram District Administration on Wednesday.

The drive involved multiple agencies, including the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP), Chattogram City Corporation, CDA, WASA, PDB, National Housing Authority, Karnaphuli Gas, BAPA and BELA.

On the first day of the drive, approximately one kilometer of the canal's stretch from Harbatli in Akbar Shah Police Station area was cleared of illegal encroachments. Around 30 unauthorized structures, including dairy farms, warehouses, concrete shops, and boundary walls of residential plots, were demolished.

The operation was coordinated by Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Kattali Circle, Arafat Siddiqui, while the overall activities were supervised by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue), Mr. Sadiur Rahim Jadid.

It is worth noting that the eviction drive will continue tomorrow as well. The district administration has affirmed its commitment to ongoing efforts to remove illegal encroachments on hills, canals, rivers, and wetlands in the Chattogram district for the public interest.
