Erosion takes devastating turn : Geo bags filled with sand being dumped at Daulatdia erosion site

A new erosion has occurred in the ferry ghat No 6 of Daulatdia of Goalando upazila in Rajbari district.

The erosion started from last Friday morning and till Wednesday afternoon about 20-25 meters area has disappeared into the river.

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has been dropping geo bags filled with sand since Thursday morning to prevent erosion.

Goalando Upazila Nirbahi Officer Joti Bikas Chandra visited the erosion site and gave directions to drop geobags filled with sand at some places.

On Thursday morning, going to Daulatdia No. 6 erosion area, it was seen that with the help of (BIWTA), sand was filled from the trawler and Geo bags were thrown into the river.

Meanwhile, the helpless people in the surrounding areas are still demolishing and moving their houses to other places due to the fear of erosion. Meanwhile, the families affected by the erosion expressed their anger and said that if measures were taken to prevent the erosion earlier, such great damage would never have happened.

Deputy Assistant Engineer of BIWTA. Shahidul Islam said, since Thursday morning, geo bags are being filled with sand from the trawler and dumped at the erosion site. He also said that for now these bags are being thrown to prevent erosion. Quoting officials will take measures to prevent permanent erosion.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer joti Bikash Chandra, while visiting the erosion site, said that after hearing the news of sudden erosion at Daulatdia No. 6 Ferry Ghat, he visited the spot and informed the authorities. For now sand filled geo bags are being placed to prevent erosion.
