Dhaka University Social Science Faculty Dean and Founder Chairman of Criminology Department Late Prof. Dr. A Zia Rahman's funeral and prayer meeting was held on Saturday at Professor Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium of the University.

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ASM Maksud Kamal was present as the chief guest at the memorial service.

Chairperson of Criminology Department Miz Shaharia Afrin presided over the ceremonyb. Former Governor of Bangladesh Bank and Emeritus Professor of Dhaka University Dr. Atiur Rahman, National University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Moshiur Rahman, Police Special Branch Chief Monirul Islam, CID Chief Mohammad Ali Mia, Dhaka University Teachers Association President Professor Dr. Md. Nizamul Haque Bhuiyan and General Secretary Professor Dr. Zeenat Huda spoke.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ASM Maksud Kamal paying deep respect to the memory of Dr Prof Zia Rahman, said that his untimely death was unexpected and unwanted by everyone. He was a prominent criminologist of Bangladesh and a renowned teacher and researcher.

Apart from teachers and students, he was very popular with all the university family. Inspired by the ideals of Bangabandhu and the spirit of the great liberation war, this talented teacher was a man with humane values. The vice chancellor mentioned that the untimely death of this teacher has caused irreparable damage to society, state and country.

The Vice-Chancellor also said, Professor Dr. Zia Rahman has done a lot of research on crime and eradication of society and his well-thought analysis and opinion on society's response to crime has been published in various seminars, meetings and print and electronic media, which will play an important role in the development of the country and nation. The Vice-Chancellor prayed for the soul of the deceased.

Other speakers said that Professor Zia Rahman has made an extraordinary contribution to the development and research of social science, especially criminology.

This meritorious teacher took a position in the hearts of all including departmental teachers, students. He has held various important positions in Dhaka University including Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences, Departmental Chairman, Hall Principal, Teachers' Association, Academic Council, Center for Advanced Research in Social Sciences and Board Director of International Society of Criminology with great transparency, efficiency and integrity, the speakers mentioned.
