Discussion meeting held in Kurigram to improve restore river navigability

A discussion meeting on the dredging of the Dharla River was held in Kurigram under the project titled "Development and Restoration of the Navigability of the Old Brahmaputra, Dharla, Tilai and Purnabhaba Rivers" implemented by BIWTA.
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) organized a discussion meeting at the Kurigram Deputy Commissioner Conference Room at 11 am on Thursday under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Nusrat Sultana. The discussion meeting was attended by concerned officials, politicians, public representatives, contractors and journalists from electronic and print media.
The discussion meeting was addressed by Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority's Additional Chief Engineer and Project Director Saidur Rahman, Kurigram BIWTA Executive Engineer (Dredging Division) Sameer Pal, District BNP Convener Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa, Joint Convener Professor Shafiqul Islam Bebu, Professor Hasibur Rahman Hasib, District Jamaat Secretary Maulana Nizam Uddin, former Municipal Mayor Abu Bakar Siddique and others.
At the discussion meeting, Additional Chief Engineer and Project Director of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority, Saidur Rahman, assured the visiting guests of a fair solution by taking into account their complaints and grievances.
At the meeting, the Kurigram Deputy Commissioner said, 'The government's great initiative of 'river dredging' to take Kurigram forward must be implemented properly. If one of the rivers in the district can be dredged in a well-planned manner through BIWTA, the rivers will become our assets. For this, we want to work with everyone in the society for the development and expansion of Kurigram. We want your cooperation.
At this time, in a question-and-answer session with journalists to prevent river erosion, Deputy Commissioner Nusrat Sultana emphasized the importance of proper planning and transparency in the work of the Water Development Board.
