The National Press Club celebrated the 104th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children's Day on Sunday through various programmes.

Programmes started in the morning by hoisting the national flag. At 11:30 a.m., the Management Committee of Jatiya Press Club led by Club President Farida Yasmin MP and General Secretary Shyamal Dutta placed wreaths on the portrait of Bangabandhu.

At this time, among others, Joint Secretary of the Club Ashraf Ali, Treasurer Shahed Chowdhury, Management Committee Member Shahnaz Siddiqui Shoma, Julhas Alam, BSS Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief Abul Kalam Azad, BFUJ-Bangladesh Federal Journalist Union President Omar Farooq and other journalist leaders were present.

Apart from this, on the occasion of National Children's Day, a drawing competition was held for members' children at the club auditorium at 12 pm .

President Farida Yasmin at the opening of the programme said, the Father of the Nation was born in Tungipara village of Gopalganj at the time when we were under subjugation. Our country was known as East Pakistan. An independent state called Bangladesh was born under the leadership of Bangabandhu. Today you are citizens of that independent country.

General Secretary Shyamal Dutta said in his welcome speech that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman loved children a lot. So we celebrate Bangabandhu's birthday as National Children's Day. Eminent painter Dhruv Esh served as the judge in the painting competition. Convener of Child Education Affairs Sub-Committee Shahnaz Siddiqui Shoma, Senior Vice-president of Management Committee Hasan Hafiz, Joint Secretary Md Ashraf Ali, Treasurer Shahed Chowdhury, members of management committee Farid Hossain, Julhas Alam and Shahnaz Begum Poli were also present. Later, prizes were distributed among the winners.
