An organised anti-national quarter went on a riot, capitalising on the sentiment of the innocent students to turn the country into a dysfunctional one, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said on Thursday.

Kamal brought the allegation while exchanging views with the members of law enforcement agencies at Shilpakala Academy auditorium in Rangpur this noon.

“The students were not involved in the acts of terror but the BNP-Jamaat’s militant activists collectively created violence in the country,” he said categorically.

The people, who went on the subversive activities in the name of the quota reform movement and their instigators, will not be spared and legal action will be taken against them, Kamal said.

Earlier in the day, the home minister visited several government establishments, including Tajhat Police Station, Begum Rokeya University, its vice chancellor’s residence, deputy commissioner’s office, district and city unit offices of Awami League, and the local family planning office, as these were badly affected during the quota reform movement.

The anti-state clique, who assassinated Bangabandhu and his family members in 1975, is responsible for turning the students’ nonviolent movement into a violent one, he said.

The vested quarter carried out destructive activities even though the government has accepted the students’ quota reform movement, Kamal said, adding that the patriotic members of all law enforcement agencies, including police, BGB and Ansar have dealt with the situation with their utmost patients.

“We will use all our efforts to identify each of them and bring them to justice. We will resist them together. I will not allow the emergence of this group in the country again,” said the home minister.
