A new centre named ‘Centre for China Studies’ has been formally inaugurated at Dhaka University (DU). DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. A S M Maksud Kamal presided over the inaugural ceremony of the centre. Chinese Ambassador in Bangladesh Mr. Yao Wen was present at the function held today March 24, 2024 at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Sinate Bhaban of the university.

DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Dr. Muhammad Samad, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Dr. Sitesh Chandra Bachar, Vice-Chancellor of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology Prof. Farid Uddin Ahmed, Vice-Chancellor of Noakhali Science and Technology University Prof. Dr. Md. Didar-ul-Alam, President of Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS) Prof. Dr. Chen Dongxiao, Vice President of East China Normal University Prof. Dr. Gu Hongliang and Vice President of Yunnan University Prof. Dr. Hu Jinming spoke on this occasion.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. A S M Maksud Kamal said, Dhaka University has been contributing immensely to education, research, political, economic, social and other sectors in Bangladesh since its inception. He said, an excellent friendly relation has been prevailing between Bangladesh and China for a long time. These friendly ties and bilateral relationship between the two countries would be further strengthened through undertaking various joint collaborative academic and research activities at this Centre, he hoped.

Ambassador Mr. Yao Wen thanked all those involved for establishing this Center for China Studies at Dhaka University. He said that the center will play a pivotal role in enhancing collaborative cooperation and development of academic, cultural and other bilateral sectors between China and Bangladesh, he added.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Dhaka University and Shanghai Institutes for International Studies was signed at the function. DU VC Prof. Dr. A S M Maksud Kamal and President of Shanghai Institutes for International Studies Prof. Dr. Chen Dongxiao signed the MoU on behalf of their respective institute. Besides, some ‘Letter of Intent’ was also signed on this occasion.
