Raihan Uddin Sarkar, Gouripur (Mymensingh)

Gouripur Upazila Nirbahi Officer M. Sajjatul Hasan paid his first visit to the graves of father and son, two language soldiers, Maulvi A. Wahed Bokainagari and son, language soldier A. Quddus Bokainagari, in Gouripur, Mymensingh on Ekushey February on Friday.

Present at the graveyard in the historic Bokainagar of the upazila were former UP Chairman A. Wadud Bokainagari, son of language soldier Maulvi A. Wahed Bokainagari, writer and researcher Anwar Hossain Shahin, Press Club President Kazi Abdullah Al Amin, journalist Humayun Kabir, President of Journalist Oikya Forum Shahjahan Kabib Hira, President of Gouripur Reporters Club Muhammad Raihan Uddin Sarkar, Supervisor of Upazila Islamic Foundation Kamrul Hasan, A. Wahab Bokainagari Moni, son of language soldier A. Quddus Bokainagari, Rafiq Bokainagari, journalists Mahfuzur Rahman, Ripon and others. The prayers were led by Islamic Foundation teacher Hafez Abu Bakar.

UNO M. Sajjatul Hasan said that the upazila administration is taking initiatives to renovate the grave.

It is mentioned that when the then Pakistani government issued Section 154, the leaders of Gouripur broke Section 54 and distributed pamphlets, held street meetings and protest marches in favor of the Bengali language. Then on February 23, the students of Rajendra Kishore High School blocked the Gouripur-Mymensingh railway line and intensified the movement and formed public opinion. For this reason, a notice was issued in the name of 19 language soldiers of Gouripur. The list included the names of the language soldiers, the late A. Wahed Bokainagari, a member of the Kolkata Assembly, and his son, the language soldier A. Quddus Bokainagari. On February 28, the police arrested the language soldiers Hatem Ali Mia, Khaleduzzam, and A. Quddus Bokainagari and they served a long 9 months in prison.
