Under-17 National Gold Cup Football Tournament inaugurated in Sherpur

On the occasion of celebrating the Youth Festival-2025 with the slogan ‘Come change the country, change the world’, the National Gold Cup Football Tournament has started in Sherpur at the district level for Under-17 boys and girls groups.

The tournament was officially inaugurated by the chief guest, Deputy Commissioner Tarafdar Mahmudur Rahman, by blowing up a balloon festoon on Saturday afternoon at the Shaheed Darog Ali Municipality Park ground. In the inaugural game, Sribardi Upazila XI in the boys group and Sherpur Municipality XI in the girls group won and made a good start.

The district administration and the district sports office have jointly organized a football competition.

The inaugural game was held between Sherpur Municipality XI and Sribardi Upazila XI in the boys group held at the Shaheed Darog Ali Municipality Park ground.

As the game remained goalless in the regular and extra time, the game went to a tiebreaker to decide the result. In this, Sribardi Upazila XI scored 2 goals out of 3 shots, but the players of Sherpur Municipality could not score a single goal in the first 4 shots. Due to this, Sribardi Upazila XI won the tiebreaker by 2-0 goals and advanced to the next round. On the other hand, Sherpur Municipality XI left the field disappointed with the loss. A large number of spectators enjoyed the game. On the other hand, the girls' group game was held at the Sherpur Shaheed Muktijoddha Smriti Stadium. In this, the girls of Sherpur Municipality XI showed their strength and defeated Sribardi Upazila XI by 6-0 goals. In the game, the striker of the Municipality XI, Bhabna Akhter, scored four goals alone, including a hat-trick. Khadija Begum and Baishakhi Akhter scored the other two goals for the team.

At the beginning of the inaugural ceremony, the flag and sports flag were hoisted to the tune of the national anthem. The program was presided over by District Sports Officer Dhirendra Chandra Sarkar, with Deputy Commissioner Tarafdar Mahmudur Rahman as the chief guest, and Deputy Director of the Local Government Department and Municipal Administrator Mohammad Tofail Ahmed as the special guest. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mosa. Hafiza Jasmine, Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Md. Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan, District Education Officer and officials of various government and private departments, coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, sports organizers and sports enthusiasts were present.

Jointly organized by the District Administration and District Sports Office, 5 boys and girls football teams from 5 upazilas of the district under the age of 17 are participating in this football competition at the district level.
