PIB's 3day training workshop in Sylhet completed, certificates distributed
Sylhet Bureau
A three-day training workshop on 'News Reporting and Narrative' organized by the Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB) was completed on Thursday.
Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Sher Mahbub Murad delivered the closing and certificate distribution ceremony of the workshop at the Sylhet Press Club auditorium in collaboration with the Sylhet Metropolitan Journalists Union. The guest of honor was Professor Dr. Mohammad Ali Wakkas, Department of Social Work, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology.
The Deputy Commissioner, the chief guest, said that in publishing any news, the future must be kept in mind. Because, if any news is printed in today's newspaper, it will not end up as today's or tomorrow's news. When someone reads that news 50 years from now, it will be a means of evaluation. He commented that it is also a matter of considering whether we are underestimating or overestimating someone while judging the future.
The Deputy Commissioner also said that this initiative of PIB in training journalists is commendable. In this context, he said that there is a shortage of trainers in many areas for providing training. In that case, Training for Trainers TOT can be created to increase training activities at the grassroots level. If they create some trainers themselves, they can provide training at the district and upazila levels.
PIB Trainer (Deputy Director) Shah Alam Saikat and AFP's Bangladesh Fact Check Editor Kadruddin Shishir spoke as guests at the closing ceremony presided over by Sylhet Metropolitan Journalists Union President Mohammad Badruddoza Badar and moderated by General Secretary and Senior Vice President of Sylhet Press Club Khaled Ahmed.
Speaking as a special guest, Professor of the Department of Social Work of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology Dr. Mohammad Ali Wakkas said that journalists are the mirror of the nation. Journalists will be thoughtful and impartial. They will highlight truth and lies as the best creatures on earth. Otherwise, they will have to be held accountable in the future. He expressed hope that journalists will play a role in taking the country forward by utilizing the knowledge gained from the training.
Sylhet Press Club General Secretary Mohammad Sirajul Islam, Sylhet Metropolitan Journalists Union Vice President Abdul Kader Tapadar and others spoke at the beginning. Abdur Razzak recited the Holy Quran at the event. Later, the guests handed over certificates to the trainees. 35 journalists from Sylhet participated in the three-day training workshop.
