
Measures will be taken to reduce inequality in Rangpur region : NBR Chairman

Resources Department Secretary and National Board of Revenue Chairman Abdur Rahman Khan has said that measures will be taken to reduce the long-standing inequality in the Rangpur region in the upcoming 2025-2026 fiscal year budget.
He said these while speaking as the chief guest at the pre-budget discussion meeting for the 2025-2026 fiscal year organized by the Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the National Board of Revenue at the Begum Rokeya Auditorium of Rangpur RDRS on Thursday.
The meeting was chaired by Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Akbar Ali and was attended by National Board of Revenue (Tax Policy) members AKM Badiul Alam and Dr. Abdur Rouf, Thakurgaon Chamber President Sharif Hossain, Gaibandha Chamber Director Abdul Latif Haqqani, Lalmonirhat Chamber former President Kamrul Hasan Bakul, Kurigram Chamber President Abdul Aziz Mia, Rangpur Metropolitan Chamber Director Ali Ahmed Chand, prominent businessman Kawsar Zaman Babla, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha Rangpur Divisional Representative Mamun Islam, Bangladesh Bread, Biscuit and Confectionery Owners Association and Rangpur Divisional President Riaz Shahid Shobhan among others.
At this time, the chamber urged the chief guest of the event to include the proposals related to import duty, value added tax, income tax and other taxes in the proposed national budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 in the upcoming budget and move the backward Rangpur region forward.
In his speech as the chief guest, Secretary and Chairman of the National Board of Revenue Abdur Rahman Khan said that the people's demands will be reflected in this year's budget. No region will have to fall into the trap of discrimination. Last year, there were 4 lakh tax returns, but this year 1.45 lakh tax returns have been received online. Work will be done to reduce VAT. Work is also being done on surcharges for businessmen.
The issue of honoring the best taxpayers and tax bravery recipients, including various awards, will be informed to various government departments. Further work will be done to simplify the VAT return process and pay taxes. In addition, land registration will be simplified. The government's attention will be drawn to the Teesta Master Plan for the development of Rangpur.
