Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) is seeking recruitment from the waiting list for various posts under the revenue sector following the previous quota system.
Earlier there was 56 percent in various quotas for direct recruitment in government jobs but based on the judgment of the High Court, the Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification on July 23, 2024 amending the existing quota system of the government.
A group is trying to get recruitment in the previous quota from the waiting list for various posts of LGED and has taken position in LGED Bhavan area of Agargaon.
It was informed through a press release from the Local Government Department of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives on Thursday.
It is learnt that in 12 categories of 13th-20th grade of revenue sector of Local Government Engineering Department (Clerk-cum-Computer Operator, Community Organizer, Clerk-cum-Computer Operator, Accounts Assistant, Surveyor, Work Assistant, Electrician, Muazzin, Office Assistant-cum -Computer Typist, Office Assistant, Office Assistant and Security Guard) 2237 Posts Recruitment Circular published on 26th December 2022.
Later, following the quota system set by the government at that time, the qualified candidates were given the final appointment on 05 October 2023 through written and oral examination.
The Ministry of Public Administration's circular dated 17 April 2023 has prepared a waiting list from among the candidates who passed in the ratio of 1:2 against each post and stored it confidentially in the Bangladesh Public Works Commission in a sealed envelope.
According to the circular issued by the Ministry of Public Administration, if any of the candidates recommended for appointment do not join the service or resign from the service after joining the service, if it is necessary to fill the vacant post, the candidate should be recommended for appointment to the vacant post after presenting the waiting list and the result seat of the passed candidates in the meeting of the concerned DPC.
On the other hand, based on the judgment of the Bangladesh Supreme Court, the Ministry of Public Administration has issued a notification by revising the previous education quota system to 93 percent based on merit, 5 percent for the children of freedom fighters and veterans, 1 percent for minority ethnic groups, and 1 percent for the physically challenged and the third gender.
In such a situation, in the present context, for the purpose of direct recruitment to the posts of 12 categories in the revenue sector of LGED, there is a clear opinion on whether the current recruitment from the waiting list prepared following the previously fixed quota system will be legal or whether it is necessary to re-prepare the waiting list following the currently fixed quota system.
The administrative ministry feels that it is necessary to take a decision.
