In the various canals of Haldia Union of Amtali upazila, the 8th Iran Bridge built by the same contractor was demolished in eight months. The Char Raugha Bridge was broken on Friday night in the bridge.

At least 5,000 people from Chawara and Haldia Union have been suffering after the bridges are broken. Punishment has been demanded to former UP chairman Md Shahidul Islam Mridha for involvement in this irregularities.

It is alleged that the Amtali Upazila Engineer Department called for tenders to construct 20 iron bridges in different canals of Haldia Union of the upazila in the financial year. Each bridge is allocated Tk 2 crore. Then Haldia Union Parishad chairman and Union Awami League president Shahidul Islam Mridha got the works in tender.

During the construction of the bridge, the contractor Shahidul Islam has worked on the dominant influence. Although the iron rail leaf was supposed to give the 'Bhim' and 'Angle' , the Upazila LGED Office built a bridge with low quality iron bhim and angle. At five years after the construction of the bridge, the bridge of the bridge is shaken. For the past 6 years, at least 5,000 people have been moving through the Haldia Union and Chaora through the Narabari Bridge.

The bridges began to collapse in June last year. On June 22 of that year, the Haldia Hut Bridge was killed in a passenger microbus. Lighting is created all over the country. But the Department of Engineering has not taken any action against the contractor. The bridge collapsed on the 5 days after the bridge collapsed. Then one by one Bansbunia, Sonawada, Haldia Big Molla Ghar, South Taktabunia Nazrul Sikder Ghar, Kanthalia Bad Indus, Kanthalia Madrasa adjacent, Chandra Auwal Nagar and Char Raugha Bridge last night. In the last eight months, five bridges are broken and the public has been in panic. Thus, despite the collapse of the bridge, the Upazila Engineering Office and the administration did not take action against the Awami League leader Shahidul Islam. On the other hand, the bridges wearing broken are lying on the canal. The concerned party is not taking any initiative to remove these.

While visited Haldia Union on Saturday , the broken parts of the bridges were lying on the canal. People are constructing alternative bamboo sac in the canal.

Nashir Howlader of Chawra Chandra village said that the two bridges built on the Chawra river have collapsed in the last eight months. Thus many bridges of Haldia Union have been broken.

It is not acceptable that the bridge will be broken at the age of 5 years of construction. He demanded action against the contractor.
Jalal Mir said that the bridge was broken in the Haldia Union and the panic and anger among the people was spreading. He demanded action against the contractor Shahidul Islam Mridha, the construction of the bridge.

Khalilur Rahman of Char Raugha village said, the bridge was shaky for the last five years. Locals have pushed the bridge with a palm tree. On Friday night, the middle part of the bridge collapsed and fell into the canal.

Haldia Union Parishad Member Md. Harun Aur Rashid said, the Upazila Engineering Office was not taking any action even though the Sonowada Bridge was demolished eight months ago.

People are suffering because of the separation of communication.

Haldia Union Parishad Chairman Md. Asaduzzaman Mintu Mallick said, in the last eight months, six bridges were broken. At least 5,000 people in Haldia and Chawara Union have suffered a lot. He demanded the construction of the bridge quickly.

When the contractor Shahidul Islam was contacted, he was not found. He was excluded from the last 5 August. His mobile phone is off.

Amtali Upazila Engineer Md. Idris Ali said the bridges were broken due to the expiry of the bridges. Asked about the term of the bridge, he said, "I do not know this." However, he cut off the phone line without answering the question.

Amtali Upazila Executive Officer Muhammad Ashraful Alam said, contractor Shahidul Islam had been involved in irregularities in the construction of the bridge against Mridha. But the local LGED is not taking action against him.

Barguna District LGED Executive Engineer Md. Mehdi Hasan said, the contractor committed irregularities during the construction of the bridge. The bridges are breaking down now. The matter will be Investigated .
