EC working on two deadlines for national polls: CEC
Staff Correspondent
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin said that the Election Commission (EC) is progressing with plans based on two deadlines set by the interim government for the upcoming national elections.
The deadlines are either by December this year or by June next year should significant reforms take place, he added.
Speaking with district administration officials in Cox's Bazar today, Nasir expressed confidence that the final voter list will be ready by June this year.
He emphasized the EC's commitment to holding a free, fair, and credible election, akin to those of 1991, 1996, and 2001, and highlighted the need for everyone's cooperation.
The CEC also said that a key task is to clean up the voter list, which includes removing 1.6 million deceased voters.
He assured that the EC would not engage in any unfair actions and would rely on impartial election officers for the process.
The meeting, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin, also saw the attendance of local police and election officers from the Chattogram region.
