The great Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day was observed in a peaceful manner with due dignity on Friday.

This Day was observed at the Central Shaheed Minar under the management of Dhaka University.

In the first hour of Ekushey, Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan welcomed the guests who came to pay tribute to the language martyrs.

At this time, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) Prof Dr. Saima Haque Bidisha, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Prof Dr. Mamun Ahmed, Treasurer Prof Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Coordinator of the Central Coordination Committee formed to celebrate Amar Ekushey, Prof Dr. Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan, Joint Coordinator Dean of the Faculty of Science Prof Dr. Abdus Salam and Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy Professor Dr. Md. Selim Reza and Member-Secretary Proctor Associate Profe Saifuddin Ahmed were present.

In the first hour of Ekushey, President Md. Shahabuddin and Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus separately paid their deep respect to the memory of the great language martyrs by placing wreaths at the Shaheed Bedi. After that, the Chief Justice, the heads of the three services, members of the Advisory Board, diplomatic figures, representatives of various political parties, socio-cultural organizations, government and non-government organizations paid their respects by placing wreaths at the Shaheed Bedi. In the first hour of Ekushey, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan placed wreaths at the Shaheed Bedi on behalf of the Dhaka University family. Teachers, officers and employees were present at the time.

As part of Dhaka University's program on the occasion of the Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day, a silent procession and morning procession were taken out from the 'Smriti Chirantan' premises at 6:30 am today, Friday to pay tribute to the martyrs. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan led it.

The silent procession and morning procession proceeded to the Central Shaheed Minar via Udayan School. Later, wreaths were placed at the Central Shaheed Minar. The university's Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Saima Haque Bidisha, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed, Registrar, Senate and Syndicate members, Deans of all faculties, Principals and Wardens of halls and hostels, Proctors, Departmental Chairmen and Institute Directors, Office Heads, Teachers, Students, Officers and Staff participated in it.

In addition, after Asr, special prayers were offered in all the hall mosques including Dhaka University Masjidul Jamia and the mosques in the university residential area, seeking forgiveness for the souls of the language martyrs. Special prayers were also offered in other religious places of worship, seeking peace for the souls of the martyrs.
