On the occasion of ‘Tarunya Utsav-2025’, an inter-district athletics competition was organized in Sylhet by the district administration and district sports office and in collaboration with the district sports organization.

The competition was held on Monday at the Abul Maal Abdul Muhith Sports Complex ground under the leadership of District Sports Officer and Sylhet District Sports Organization Ad Hoc Committee Member-Secretary Md. Nur Hossain.

With the aim of building a new Bangladesh, athletes from 13 upazilas and one city corporation of the district will participate in this competition with the theme ‘Come and change the country, change the world’. The district athletics team, formed by those selected in this competition, will compete with athletes from Habiganj, Moulvibazar and Sunamganj in the divisional level competition on January 24.

Inaugurating the competition under the chairmanship of Bipul Chandra Talukdar, the office secretary of the District Sports Organization, the speakers emphasized the importance of sports in building a beautiful and healthy life and instilling a competitive spirit.

They said that along with education, a person acquires the qualities of brotherhood, compassion and leadership through sports. The speakers mentioned that the young generation should be more involved in sports to stay free from drug addiction and degradation, and mobile phone addiction.

Inspired by the July-August Revolution, this 52-day-long event will include all domestic sports including football, cricket, badminton, kabaddi. Awareness will be created on various issues including avoiding the use of plastic, environmental development and planting saplings, preventing noise pollution, healthcare campaigns, preventing biodiversity extinction. In addition, competitions in painting, debate, quizzes and music, and book reading, arts and crafts fairs, plays, seminars, etc. will be organized.
