The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has raided the Gopalganj Public Health Engineering Department and Health Engineering Department on allegations of various irregularities.

A team led by Md. Mashiur Rahman, Deputy Director of the Anti-Corruption Commission Gopalganj Office, conducted the raid on Monday morning.

Md. Mashiur Rahman, Deputy Director of the Anti-Corruption Commission Gopalganj Office, said that water lines, sewage and drainage have been constructed at the Savanna Eco Resort and Natural Park, built under the personal ownership of former IGP Benazir Ahmed, using government money. In addition, allegations of irregularities have been found in the distribution of tubewells and latrines, construction of public toilets, and supply of water lines in various villages. The allegations of charging several times the price fixed by the government for the distribution of tubewells have also been confirmed.

He also said that the construction of a 20-bed hospital in Nizamkandi Union of Kashiani Upazila started in 2019 without the knowledge of the district civil surgeon, but 50 percent of the work has not been completed. However, the bill of Tk 16.19 crore for this project has been paid. Although the time has already been extended three times, the contractor and engineer of the project are colluding with each other to increase the cost repeatedly by claiming price increase without completing the work.

This has caused huge financial loss to the government. Without informing the Civil Surgeon's Office or health-related people, the engineers and contractors of the Department of Health Engineering are embezzling and causing huge losses to the government. Legal action will be taken by informing the recovery officers in this regard, including an investigation.
