Locals have formed a human chain demanding the arrest and hanging of those who brutally hacked Ataur Rahman (Bipul) to death and attacked his family in Sarishabari, Jamalpur.

The human chain was held on the Sarishabari-Tarakandi-Bhuapur main road in the Tarakandi intersection area of Pogaldigha union of the upazila on Tuesday morning.

In the presence of people from different walks of life, the human chain was addressed by Sarishabari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Chand Mia, Bipul's father Anwar Hossain Kalu, elder brother Al Amin, and local residents.

The speakers at the human chain said that the law enforcement agencies have not yet been able to arrest Apel, the main accused in such a brutal murder. They called for his immediate arrest. They also demanded the hanging of those arrested directly involved in the murder.

It is learnt that on Friday morning , Asaduzzaman Apel and his men attacked Ataur Rahman Bipul, his mother Asma Begum and his wife Mukta Begum with sharp weapons over a land dispute. In the attack, they chopped off Bipul's right hand and right leg and severed them from his body.

At that time, three fingers of his wife Mukta's right hand and a vein of her left leg were cut off. Apel and his men beat Bipul's mother Asma Begum and broke one of her hands. In this incident, Sarishabari Police Station and District Intelligence Branch conducted raids at various places and arrested 5 people, but the main accused in the case, Apel, has not been arrested yet.

Speaking at the human chain, Sarishabari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Chand Mia said, "We have already arrested 5 people. Work is underway to arrest the rest. And we are also protesting such brutal murders."
